One of the best books about the possibilities of IoT and the future of data is "
The Future is Smart" by W. David Stephenson. In it, he mentions the staggering amount of energy (and money) saved by using the right technology in the right scenarios. In this case, Nest, the smart thermostat company acquired by Google in 2014 for $3.2 billion:
"Nests have saved users billions of kWh of energy, an average of 10 to 12 percent on heating bills, and 15 percent on cooling."
Clearly, Google saw the value of a small upfront investment to that will yield long-term savings for the customers. The Salamander Reservoir offers a similar value proposition and can save energy by focusing heating efforts based upon the real-time data of the water temperature, which is much less volatile than air temperature. After all, who doesn't love energy savings especially when coupled with sustainability!
